Choose from a variety of metals for your wedding bands.

In today’s world, mens wedding rings are almost as important as her engagement ring.  At Zembar Jewelers we suggest that men start with figuring out which metal they prefer.  Traditional wedding bands are gold or white gold, but there are many popular alternative metals to choose from.  Each with it’s own characteristics, we offer platinum, palladium, titanium, tungsten, and stainless steel styles.

Different metals for your jewelry can have an affect on your budget, the feel of the jewelry on your skin, and the amount of maintenance needed to keep it looking like new. There are even options if you have a sensitivity to a certain metal. The professionals at Zembar Jewelers can help you understand the pros and cons of the alternative metal choices, so you can make an informed purchase.

Gold

Gold is an element found naturally in a distinct yellow color. It is resistant to rust, tarnish, and corrosion. Although gold is very strong, it’s also the most malleable of all precious metals. It maintains its shape and is durable, making it a fantastic metal for jewelry.

White Gold

To make gold white, gold is combined with metal alloys that are white in nature. Jewelry is then “plated” with this extremely hard element called rhodium to give it the white finish. Although strong, rhodium can wear away over time, making your jewelry appear more yellowish, like real gold. Rhodium plating is a simple process that can be done to restore whiteness to jewelry that has faded.

Rose Gold

Rose gold is gold mixed with a copper alloy. By increasing the copper colored alloys and decreasing the silver colored alloys that are mixed with gold, the rose color is achieved. Rose gold has the same amount of pure gold as white gold; it is only the mix of the alloys that is changed to create the rose colored look.

Silver

Sterling silver is a white-grey colored metal. Less expensive than gold, platinum and titanium, silver is a softer and does not have hardness that the other metals do. Silver is a popular metal and is commonly used for jewelry such as earrings, pendants, bracelets, watches, necklaces and rings. It is usually not recommend to be chosen for ladies and men’s wedding rings, and is not suitable for ladies engagement rings because of it’s softness.

Platinum

Platinum jewelry is made from very pure platinum. It is a fantastic choice for engagement rings and wedding bands because it is a pure white metal that won’t fade or change color as the years pass. It is very sturdy and highly durable, making it ideal for everyday wear and it is the ultimate as a secure setting for diamonds. Platinum jewelry will maintain its color, brilliance and throughout a lifetime of wear!

Palladium

Palladium is a precious metal that is similar to metals such as platinum and rhodium. Palladium has a natural gray-white luster. It doesn’t tarnish or need to be rhodium plated, making it is a perfect, low maintenance metal. Palladium’s biggest advantage is that it lighter than platinum, but still durable. Because of this lightness, it can be cast into more intricate fashions and is also less expensive.

Tungsten

Tungsten is a dark gray glossy metal. It is a very hard, strong and durable metal, which makes it quite heavy. Tungsten’s unique characteristic is that it is highly scratch resistant. It is only possible to scratch tungsten with objects that are harder than itself, such as diamonds, sapphires, rubies and ceramic. It will retain a polish longer than any other metal, preserving it’s natural, glossy look.

Titanium

Titanium is a lustrous gray metal. It is stronger than gold, platinum and even steel, so jewelry made from Titanium will last a lifetime. Titanium is also very lightweight and comfortable to wear and people with sensitivities to metals are often unaffected by wearing titanium jewelry.

Stainless Steel

Crafting jewelry out of stainless steel has gained popularity in recent years due to trends that lean towards an industrial, street look with a touch of flare. Stainless Steel has found its way to fashion where it’s used in everything from necklaces to earrings. It is impervious to staining or corrosion, making it a perfect choice for jewelry worn every day.
